Rancho Mirage has two items on tomorrow’s City Council agenda pertaining to the Disney “Storyliving” residential development known as Cotino. The first agenda item, on the consent calendar, pertains to “vacating” easement property within the Cotino development. The second item is a public hearing to consider residential design guidelines and exemptions from the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).

Consent item 2 on the council agenda is to “Adopt Resolution No. 2023-(Next-in-Order), Summarily Vacating Approximately 2.454 Acres of Excess Right-of-Way/Easement Area, Located Within a Portion of the Northeast Quadrant of Section 31 (Cotino)….” Cotino is the Disney Storyliving residential development as seen in Patriot Bytes #11.
Public Hearings
There are two public hearings on tomorrow’s agenda. The first is to consider “Designating the Residential Home Located at 40267 Club View Drive a Historic Resource.” The home, according to Flyhomes, was “designed by William Cody and previously owned by Hoagy Carmichael.” The home is in the Thunderbird Country Club and has been near the homes of former President Ford and Lucille Ball in the past.
The second public hearing is to consider “Environmental Assessment Case No. EA22-0020 and Preliminary Development Plan Case No. PDP22-0005 – Catino Residential Design Guidelines.” The applicant is “DMB Development LLC on Behalf of ECRM Residential.”
The Environmental assessment case pertains to considering finding the Cotino preliminary development plan “Exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). The exemption cites “CEQA Guidelines Sections 15162 (Subsequent EIRs and Negative Declarations)” for the rationale. The council will also consider approving the preliminary development plan for the Disney development, subject to the findings contained in the staff report.
The City Council meeting will be held tomorrow, July 6, at 1 pm.
